"Coo-wee-scoo-wee, Cherokee Messenger"

= O-si-yo = Hello

Purposes for my creating this site
The original intention for setting up a web site was to establish a venue to provide links to sites where those desirous of knowledge of the Cherokee could obtain credible information relevant to our people, the Cherokee Indian -- or more accurately the 'Anigituwagi'.   There are facets of the Cherokee, heritage, culture and traditions that are being exploited by some of the most unscrupulous people.   Being cognizant of this is not enough.  These people need to be exposed.  These charlatans - also referred to as vultures  are comprised of both Indians (known as Apples - 'red on the outside and white on the inside') and Non-Indians alike (or Yonega - a white person {or in bastardized  form} 'Yo-Neck').

Will Rogers once said, "Yes, I have Indian blood in me.  I, also, have just enough white blood for you to question my honesty."

These vultures sole purpose is to separate the uninformed (misinformed) from as much money as possible, by utilizing any means available to them.  They will tell you only what they want you to know, and usually it is just enough to stir your interest and to make you loosen the purse strings.

If you want information regarding Cherokee history, or genealogy, go to a credible site, such as one of those listed on my links page.  If you continue to be taken in by these vermin, then I guess there's no hope for you.  Just consider yourself forewarned.  I know many of us from various tribes across America constantly hear stories of people (generally non-Indians) that have had bad experiences with one of these, all knowing, charlatans, and they will say, "Serves them right, if they are that stupid."  I say, "If we're going to co-exist on this earth, and we must  (for the sake of Mother Earth)  try and educate them in our way, and not take advantage of them."

I am trying to provide the caliber of site that the unknowing, but desirous of knowledge, can go to and not be stripped of their hard earned money. There are plenty of credible sites you can go to for information, just as there are plenty of high quality (by looks anyway) sites that are there to deceive and bilk you.  There are some people that have read just enough to be dangerous.  This group is potentially more dangerous than those that overtly prey on the populous.  They think they are all knowing, and nothing can change them.  There are those that espouse a great knowledge about merging cultures and traditional ceremonies ~ HA! Those that will be so arrogant as to talk about ceremonies, especially traditional, will only wind up harming themselves.  Remember the words of Jesus Christ, when he spoke from the Cross?  "Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do."
Do not give up your quest for the truth!  Just keep in mind that every person that claims to know what they are talking about - DOESN'T!! And that everything you read on the Internet is NOT the gospel to any except the person doing the writing.
Learn all you can, and share your knowledge, but keep your minds open to those with differing points of view.

Are you doing a family research project and need a little direction?
Another reason for creating this site.  If you are interested in genealogy, then you will want to know about some fantastic sites, one of which is  -- Cyndi's List This site has amassed over a quarter million links and is growing daily.  You could get completely lost in this site and just keep learning, forever.  This is a site that can direct you to the location of practically anything and everything you could possibly imagine relative to (in addition to genealogy) a lot of rather obscure historical information.  And most importantly quite probably  - the exact place where you need to be to complete your objectives.

If you click here  you will go to my Cherokee family's genealogy site.  Once you're there, you may enter into the Ross Family site by entering the user name - "jj_doe" and the password - "guest"  This will give you access to many of the ancestors and descendants of
Principal Chief John Ross.  In addition, it will show you many pictures of my family.  If you're interested in becoming a site member, let me know and I'll do a formal invite.  You may be interested in setting up a site for your family.
This is an excellent place to do that, also.  And IT'S FREE!!

I have access and the wherewithall to tackle the nuances of the Cherokee Dawes Roll along with the Guion Miller Rolls of the Cherokee Old Settler.  Plus I am available to assist you in your search for your Cherokee heritage, should that be the case.  After having read the above, if you would like for me to assist you with your search, please click here to get started.  NOTE:  There will be a fee for my time doing your research. I do not charge for questions and simple requests.

Looking for help gathering Veteran related information?

Yet another reason for the site is that I hope to provide links to sites pertinent to veterans and veteran oriented issues.  I want to provide a venue for veteran organizations, conventions, conferences, HOT ISSUES, i.e.. the promotion of the amendment to protect the American Flag, or at the very least try and persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn their decision to permit the desecration of the U.S. Flag.
I once heard a well respected National leader of a veteran organization speaking to a Promenade Nationale (National Convention) of the Forty et Eight in Rapid City, South Dakota say, "If the veterans of this country are not going to stick together, WHO WILL??"  In other words, there is a;ways strength in numbers, and the veterans of America number over 5 million and are running around the world with no one common voice to represent them ~ much like the Cherokee before Chief John Ross.  Veterans need to join organized Veteran Organizations such as the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and have representatives of those organizations speak on their behalf.  Locate your nearest Vets organization and ask to visit with their service officer.  He/she is there to help you get the help you earned by your service.

Time to do something if ~ you care about "Mother Earth"///
Throughout my lifetime I've always been aware of the mistreatment of MOTHER EARTH by the billions of people that have and are inhabiting her.  Sadly, it has been only recently that I have become very concerned about the state of 'MOTHER EARTH.' Therefore I have finally jumped on the bandwagon to help promote locating and use of alternative energy sources to help save our planet, and to eliminate the use of fossil fuels.  At the very least I'll do whatever I can to decrease the use of fossil fuels. NO!I am not a 'Tree Hugger' by any stretch of the imagination, but I do believe that if we (and I do mean WE) don't start acting together in a more humane manner towards our Mother Earth, there will be no planet safe for our children's children and all our descendants of the future to walk upon.  Please look on my Links page for locations to search out possible alternatives.  Do your own research, then ACT upon what you discover.  Just don't be so complacent that you sit on the sidelines and let whatever happens happen.

The indigenous peoples of the world are (and have been) aware of the mounting problems with the mis-treatment of Mother Earth by the large corporations, that are destroying our rain forests, our oceans, our fresh water, ultimately the entire planet.  How can we (YOU) stand to look in the mirror each day with the awareness that our planet is dying with each passing second and we're (you're) not doing anything about it.  We are dying from global warming (YES!  It does exist).  For proof, just look at both the North and South Poles.  Look at Greenland, look at the water temperatures in both the Arctic and and Antarctic see the ice melts of the glaciers, all causing ocean levels to rise at an alarming rate. If you've read this far you, too, have a concern.  Surely you can do (and possibly are doing) something to preserve what is left of your MOTHER EARTH.  I'm getting off my soapbox for now, but please do some research and then follow-up on it.  You owe it to yourself and your descendants.

"America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70 percent of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war. I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil. On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes toward cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources.  To get this done, I need your help. Check out the plan. If you think it's worth fighting for, please join our effort, and encourage everyone you know to do the same.  "T. Boone Pickens"

Book Me!!~~ Seriously, tho..
If you feel I can be of benefit to your school a/o organization, please contact me.

A purely selfish, reason for the site is to help promote my speaking engagements. Over the last 25+ years, I have traveled throughout the country speaking to elementary & secondary schools, colleges, civic, and social groups, special events, holidays, banquets and yes - even at campsites sitting around a warm spring or autumn fire (my personal favorite).  Topics I've dealt with are dealing with the history, culture and genealogy of the Cherokee plus motivational, humorous, but most of all entertainingly educational.  And as a past State Commander of a National Veterans organization, I also speak on a patriotic theme.

I am available most anytime to go anywhere with ample notice, of course.  If you're interested or know of an organization/school that wishes more information, please contact me.

PLEASE NOTE:  There has been some talk of holding a Ross Family reunion in 2013.  If you are reading this and know any descendants of Chief John Ross, please pass the word along, and have them get in touch with me for information as it develops.  I will post details as they come in.  Plans are only in the talking stage at this time, and nothing specific is set.  Without a lot of effort by a lot of people, we may have to hold off until 2014, but hopefully it can be held in conjunction with Cherokee Holiday on Labor Day weekend..  If anyone is interested in helping with setting this up, please let me know..(contact info. below)

I hope you have enjoyed my site and if you should have any comments
